The National Park Service at Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook Unit, is committed to the preservation, protection and shared heritage of the seven mile-long barrier beach. The Sandy Hook Unit is a National Historic Landmark with NPS officials working to preserve and restore historic structures, marshes, woods and protected dunes. The park promotes responsible environmental stewardship through outreach, education and recreational activities in the park.
